SANSAR is hosting its 5th annual fundraising gala on Friday, June 7, 2019. Our goal is to raise $60,000 towards a new research study to better understand the causes of heart disease and stroke in South Asians. While there are known risk factors (high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and smoking), South Asians likely have additional risk factors that are poorly understood.
The large research study will determine whether starting cholesterol-lowering medication in 10,000 young to middle-aged adults can eliminate the risk of coronary heart disease(ECAD study), specifically including a large number of South Asians in Canada. Proceeds from the gala will allow researchers to evaluate specific blood markers, genetics, and advanced cardiac imaging in the South Asian participants, in hopes of identifying new risk factors and targets for prevention and treatment.
The black-tie affair is a ‘Bollywood’ theme, celebrating Bollywood cinema. The event is all set for guests to enjoy a cocktail and dinner reception, live performers, and participate in a raffle and a silent auction. Guests will be encouraged to use the hashtag, #sansargala, during the evening to post on Instagram and SANSAR’s real-time Twitter feed, a big hit each year. Dinner reception will be followed by dancing.
