Smoking contributes to plaque buildup in the arteries, which increases the risk of developing heart disease and having a heart attack or a stroke. There is NO safe level of smoking that will not cause damage to the heart. In fact, consuming 1-5 cigarettes every day increases the risk of having a heart attack by almost 40%. Smoking also increases the risks for other diseases, such as various cancers.
It is also important to note that tobacco in any form can be extremely harmful. The risk for heart disease increases with usage of all forms of tobacco, including filtered and non-filtered cigarettes, pipes and cigars, and chewing tobacco as well.
